Paul Depla opens the first PR museum in the Netherlands
Where John Lennon, Enzo Knol, Edward Bernays and Barack Obama come together
The museum showcased the history of the PR profession. The timeline of PR began with cave paintings in prehistoric times and led through Ivy Lee, the great inventors of communication tools like Edison and Bell to Edward Bernays, propaganda posters from WWII and Barak Obama. The museum also showed the similarities between influencers of the past (Coco Chanel and John Lennon) and the present (Nikkie de Jager and Enzo Knol). The first virtual influencer from the Netherlands, Esther Olofsson was present. At the media plaza, the current media landscape was compared to that of 1970. And it was shown how a magazine like LINDA. has grown into a multimedia platform and with various titles. Furthermore, visitors were inspired by the most high-profile cases of PR agencies from all over the Netherlands, such as SIRE’s ‘Doe’s lief campaign’ and the campaign for ‘Het Vergeten Kind’. But of course, there were also cases from TALK ABOUT itself to admire.
Official opening
Paul Depla opened the museum and in his speech emphasized the importance of PR for businesses, and cities. “PR is sometimes perceived as unnecessary, but it is very important to tell your story in such a way that your target audience hears it. Otherwise, you will remain the only one who knows the story. So PR is necessary.” Communications students from Breda also received special attention at the museum. During the big student PR debate, they debated on the PR profession.
